Nuclear Energy Agency
The Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA), a part of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), is an international organization established in 1958. NEA's main objective is to promote the safe, environmentally friendly and economical use of nuclear energy by cooperating in the development and implementation of nuclear energy policies of member countries.

NEA helps member countries share knowledge and experience by conducting policy analysis and research on nuclear safety and regulation, radiation protection, nuclear science, nuclear law, and socio-economic aspects of nuclear technology. The Agency also seeks to strengthen technological and political cooperation among member states by establishing joint projects and working groups in the field of nuclear energy. NEA activities are focused on nuclear safety and regulation, nuclear energy development, radioactive waste management, radiation protection and public health, nuclear law and liability, nuclear sciences, data bank, information and communication. NEA conducts its operations through the following technical committees, as well as joint initiatives and working groups:

Committee on Nuclear Regulatory Activities (CNRA)

Committee on the Safety of Nuclear Installations (CSNI)

Radioactive Waste Management Committee (RWMC)

Committee on Radiation Protection and Public Health (CRPPH)

Nuclear Energy Development Committee (NDC)

Nuclear Law Committee (NLC)

Nuclear Science Committee (NSC)

Data Bank (DB)

Türkiye became a member of the NEA in 2016. Through its NEA membership, Türkiye benefits from international cooperation and information sharing on the development, implementation and safe use of nuclear energy policies. By participating in trainings and meetings organized by NEA, Türkiye shares knowledge and experience on best practices and strategies in the fields of nuclear energy, radiation protection, nuclear safety and regulation. Furthermore, Türkiye contributes to NEA's research and policy analysis and shares its knowledge and experience on issues such as socio-economic aspects of nuclear energy and nuclear law. Participating in collaborative projects and working groups within the NEA enhances Türkiye's collaboration with member countries in the nuclear energy field. This collaboration aids in enhancing Türkiye's capacity and expertise in the nuclear energy sector, enabling more effective guidance of the country's nuclear strategies and policies.

In addition, Türkiye became a member of the Multinational Design Evaluation Programme (MDEP) organization established within the OECD/NEA in 2014 in order for national regulatory authorities to cooperate and share information on safety design reviews of new reactors, and became a member of the "VVER design special working group (VVERWG)" established in 2015. Russia is involved together with Finland and India.

TENMAK is the National Coordination Unit of NEA. The President of TENMAK is a member of the Executive Committee, the highest decision-making body of NEA. Officials from the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources and TENMAK serve on NEA Technical Committees.
